Deposits::Eco Youth Hostel Svoja vas

The following idea was submitted to the Snovalec 2011 call, a national competition for most promising tourism ideas in Slovenia that are brought to life by the help of Slovenian Tourist Board and the Ministry of Economy. Out of 73 submitted ideas it was chosen as one of the 12 most promising.

In the recent years, tourism has been expanding in two directions, with the products for seniors and those for the youth. The latter are with their specific requirements the reason that youth hostels are growing like mushrooms after the rain or there are abandoned mansions, prisons and hotels being changed into them.

In the spirit of environmental awareness (according to the Slovenian Eco-Village Guidelines), a small island village of independent living units, not larger than 20 m², could be built at a distant idyllic location. This village would be built from waste materials (non-recyclable bottles, broken pottery) and from as many natural materials as possible (clay, straw, stone, and resin). The young people from various fields of expertise would participate in the formation of the project (perhaps in return for a subsequent holiday accommodation) and would under the auspices of the investor – operator, a classic tourist service provider, certainly help create a functional, comfortable and eye-friendly resort that would constitute a magnet for young travellers by its attractiveness and self-sufficiency.
